Biographical Record
Quincy Jones (1933–2024) was one of the most prolific and influential creative polymaths in musical history. Emerging as a teenage jazz trumpet prodigy playing alongside Lionel Hampton and Dizzy Gillespie, Jones quickly established himself as an elite arranger for Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, and Frank Sinatra.
As a pioneering Black executive in Hollywood, he broke systemic barriers by scoring major feature films such as In the Heat of the Night (1967) and In Cold Blood (1967). His collaboration with Michael Jackson resulted in the triumvirate of albums Off the Wall, Bad, and Thriller (1982)—the best-selling album in human history with over 70 million copies sold.
Jones produced the historic charity single \"We Are the World\" in 1985 and the landmark film The Color Purple. Holding 28 Grammy Awards from 80 nominations, Jones's genius shaped the auditory landscape of global popular culture.
