Shu'ayb (Jethro / Prophet of Midian)

Shu'ayb was sent by God to the commercial crossroad of Midian and the people of the Wood (Ashab al-Aykah). Celebrated for his exceptional eloquence and gentleness of speech, he directed his prophetic mission against the systemic fraud, banditry, and corrupt weights and measures that plagued regional caravan trade.

Teacher of Commercial Ethics

Shu'ayb declared that devotion to God cannot be severed from ethical commerce: 'Give full measure and weight with justice, and do not defraud people of their things.' When the greedy elite threatened to expel him unless he conformed to dishonest practices, he stood firm, asserting that lasting sustenance comes only from honest earnings.

Counselor to Moses

In mid-life, Shu'ayb provided a haven for Moses during his flight from Egypt, giving him his daughter in marriage and mentoring him in wilderness leadership. In Jewish tradition, Jethro advised Moses to establish a decentralized judiciary of capable, God-fearing elders to ensure fair governance.
