"O my people, I had indeed brought you the message of my Lord, and given you good advice, but you do not like those who give good advice."

Archival Overview

Sent to the master stone-carvers of Thamud at Hegra (Mada'in Salih), Salih challenged their greed and injustice through the miraculous She-Camel of God, demonstrating the inviolability of divine compassion.

Biographical Record

Salih was a prophet of ancient northern Arabia, dispatched to the proud kingdom of Thamud who hewed secure, monumental homes directly into the red sandstone cliffs of Hegra. Renowned among his people from youth for his wisdom, he was expected to join the nobility until he began preaching strict monotheism and economic fairness.

The Miracle of the She-Camel

When the leaders of Thamud demanded an undeniable sign, God miraculously brought forth from a solid boulder a magnificent She-Camel, with instructions that she must share the city's water on designated days without harm. The camel symbolized the sharing of scarce natural resources with the helpless. However, a conspiratorial cabal of nine corrupt oligarchs hamstrung and slaughtered the animal.

The Warning & The Great Blast

Salih gave the rebellious city three days to repent. On the sunrise of the fourth day, a terrifying blast and earthquake shook the valley, leaving their magnificent carved monuments as an eternal silent warning. Salih and the faithful migrated to safety in the Levant.
