"Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

Archival Overview

The devoted attendant and anointed successor of Moses, Joshua led the twelve tribes across the Jordan River into the Promised Land, renowned for his heroic courage, military brilliance, and unwavering covenantal fidelity.

Biographical Record

Joshua (in Hebrew Yehoshua, in Arabic Yusha bin Nun) was Moses' steadfast companion during the forty years of wandering in the Sinai desert. Present on Mount Sinai during the revelation of the Law and acting as one of the two faithful spies who trusted divine providence over physical giants, he was chosen by God to lead Israel across the Jordan.

The Conquest and Miracles

Under Joshua's leadership, the waters of the Jordan parted as the priests bore the Ark of the Covenant. He oversaw the miraculous collapse of the walls of Jericho and famously called upon the Lord at Gibeon, where the sun stood still in the heavens until righteousness prevailed.

Covenant at Shechem

Before his death at Timnath-serah at the age of 110, Joshua assembled all the tribes at Shechem. He demanded that they make a clear moral choice between the idols of their ancestors and the living God, uttering the immortal words: 'As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.'
