Elisha / Al-Yasa (The Wonder-Working Prophet)

Elisha (known in Arabic as Al-Yasa) was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen when Elijah cast his prophet's mantle upon him. Immediately abandoning his wealth, he slaughtered the oxen to feed his people and followed Elijah as his dedicated attendant and disciple.

The Double Portion and Miracles

When Elijah was swept to heaven in a chariot of fire, Elisha took up his mantle and struck the waters of the Jordan, which divided before him. His prophetic ministry was marked by boundless compassion: he purified poisoned city wells, multiplied a poor widow's jar of oil to save her sons from debt slavery, resurrected the Shunammite woman's dead son, and fed a hundred men with twenty barley loaves.

Healing Naaman and Diplomatic Grace

Famously curing Naaman, commander of the Syrian army, of leprosy by instructing him to wash in the Jordan, Elisha demonstrated that divine grace extends across national boundaries. His wisdom guided kings and defended Israel against foreign invasions through spiritual vision rather than bloodshed.
