Dhul-Kifl (The Prophet of Patience)

Dhul-Kifl is one of the revered figures praised by God in the Quran alongside Ishmael and Idris as being 'among the steadfast and patient, all admitted into Divine Mercy.' While frequently associated by classical exegetes such as Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari with the biblical prophet Ezekiel, Dhul-Kifl possesses his own distinct moral stature in prophetic lore.

The Sacred Pledge

According to ancient narratives, an aging prophet sought a successor who could guarantee three demanding conditions: to fast during every day, spend the entire night in prayer, and administer justice to the people without ever becoming angry. Dhul-Kifl stepped forward and took this sacred oath (kifl). Despite intense provocations from deceitful litigants and diabolical distractions attempting to break his serenity, he fulfilled his promise flawlessly throughout his entire lifetime.

Veneration at Al-Kifl

His historic tomb in the Iraqi city of Al-Kifl, located along the Euphrates River between Najaf and Hilla, has stood as a sacred pilgrimage destination for Jews, Christians, and Muslims for over a millennium, symbolizing unyielding spiritual endurance and equanimity.
