Archival Overview

Elder brother and loyal counselor to Moses. Endowed with divine eloquence to speak before Pharaoh, he was consecrated as the inaugural High Priest (Kohen Gadol) of Israel.

Biographical Record

Aaron served as Moses's essential partner during the confrontation with Pharaoh and the ten plagues of Egypt. Bearing the sacred breastplate adorned with twelve precious stones representing the tribes, he established the hereditary priesthood and sacrificial service of the Tabernacle.

Revered for his gentle nature and relentless pursuit of communal peace, ancient rabbinic tradition praises him as one who "loved peace and pursued peace, loved all human beings and brought them close to Torah."
