Biographical Record
Petrus Thomas Ratajczyk grew up in Brooklyn of Polish and Icelandic descent. Working for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, he founded thrash metal group Carnivore before forming Type O Negative in 1989.
With Type O Negative's platinum 1993 album 'Bloody Kisses' and 1996's 'October Rust', Steele forged a revolutionary gothic doom-metal sound fusing Black Sabbath heavy riffs, Beatles melodies, and gothic romanticism. His deep bass-baritone voice and tongue-in-cheek lyrics made him a cult hero of alternative metal.
