Archival Overview

Cherished Canadian radio broadcaster and writer whose intimate, conversational style on CBC Morningside united Canadians coast to coast to coast.

Biographical Record

Peter John Gzowski was great-grandson of the celebrated Polish-Canadian engineer Sir Casimir Gzowski. Beginning as a cub reporter at the Moose Jaw Times-Herald, Gzowski rose to become editor of Maclean's magazine before taking the helm of CBC Radio's Morningside in 1982.

For fifteen years, Gzowski hosted over 27,000 interviews, conducting gentle, deeply empathetic conversations that illuminated every facet of Canadian identity, landscape, and eccentric genius. He founded the Peter Gzowski Invitational golf tournaments, raising millions for adult literacy, and was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
