Biographical Record
Nichiren (1222–1282 CE) was a fisherman's son who studied at Mount Hiei before proclaiming that natural disasters and the Mongol threat were warnings of spiritual decline.
In his Rissho Ankoku Ron, he boldly admonished the Kamakura shogunate, survived execution at Tatsunokuchi and exile on Sado Island, and inscribed the Gohonzon mandala for all humanity.
