Persian philosopher and theologian who revolutionized Islamic metaphysics by founding Transcendent Theosophy (Hikmat al-Muta'aliyah). Formulated the primacy of existence (Asalat al-Wujud) and substantial motion (al-Harakah al-Jawhariyyah).

Biographical Record

Born to a prominent Shiraz noble family, Mulla Sadra studied in Safavid Isfahan under Mir Damad and Shaykh Baha'i. Facing harsh criticism from literalist clerics, he withdrew for fifteen years of intense ascetic meditation in the mountain village of Kahak near Qom, where philosophical intuition merged with mystical illumination.

Returning to Shiraz to lead the Khan School, he authored the monumental Al-Asfar al-Arba'ah (The Four Journeys of the Soul). He passed away in Basra while embarking on his seventh pilgrimage on foot to Mecca.
