Biographical Record
A Berber of the Gazula confederation in the Anti-Atlas, Imam al-Jazuli studied at the Madrasa As-Saffarin in Fez, spending years in contemplative retreat. He established a massive reformist Sufi network that mobilized hundreds of thousands of disciples across southern Morocco.
His prayer compendium, *Dala'il al-Khayrat* (Waymarks of Benefits), became the most copied and illuminated manuscript book in the Islamic world after the Quran. When the Portuguese seized coastal ports, his disciples led the national resistance. In 1524, Saadian Sultan Ahmad al-Araj transferred his body to Marrakesh, establishing him as one of the Seven Saints.
