Biographical Record
Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Qasim al-Fasi served for decades as the chief jurisconsult (Mufti) of Fez and dean of legal studies at Al-Qarawiyyin University. His legal opinions (fatawa) were celebrated throughout North Africa for balancing strict Maliki orthodoxy with community welfare (maslaha).
