Following the death of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (El Cid), Ibn Aisha laid siege to Valencia, reclaiming the jewel of eastern Spain for the Almoravids in 1102. He subsequently built a powerful Moroccan-Andalusian fleet that cleared the western Mediterranean of Pisan and Genoese raiders.
