Biographical Record
Moustafa Farroukh was born in Beirut and graduated from the Royal College of Fine Arts in Rome in 1927, continuing his training in Paris. Returning to Lebanon, he established an open studio in Beirut that became a cultural salon, teaching art at the American University of Beirut for decades.
Farroukh was a master of plein-air oil painting and watercolors, producing over two thousand works capturing the majestic cedar forests, traditional red-tiled village houses, and dramatic valleys of Mount Lebanon. His portraits of national thinkers and his insightful autobiography, The Story of an Artist from Lebanon, established him as a founding father of national visual art.
