Archival Overview
Pivotal early Alaouite royal commander who secured the Saharan caravan approaches to Sijilmassa and fortified the family's ancestral oasis territories during the dawn of the dynasty.
Biographical Record
Moulay M'hammed was a senior son of Moulay Ali Sharif of Tafilalt. Working alongside his brothers during the chaotic post-Saadian interregnum, he coordinated the defense of Tafilalt against incursions from the Sous and central Middle Atlas confederacies.
His administration over the palm oases ensured steady revenues from the trans-Saharan salt and gold caravans that financed early Alaouite state-building campaigns.
