Archival Overview
Son of Sidi Muhammad ibn Abdallah who was proclaimed Sultan in Marrakech and southern Morocco (1790–1795) during the dynastic partition with his brother Moulay Sulayman.
Biographical Record
Moulay Hisham was proclaimed sultan by the influential tribes of the Haouz and southern Morocco upon his brother Yazid's death. For several years, Morocco was effectively divided between Hisham in Marrakech and his brother Moulay Sulayman in Fez.
Recognizing the exhaustion of the country and wishing to avoid further civil bloodshed, Hisham abdicated in 1795 in favor of Sulayman, living in dignified retirement in Marrakech until his death during the devastating plague of 1799.
