Archival Overview

Pioneering composer and first conductor of the Rachidia Orchestra who introduced orchestral notation and systematic harmony to Tunisian classical music over a career spanning nearly a century.

Biographical Record

Mohamed Triki was educated at Collège Sadiki and studied Western classical violin alongside traditional Arab music. In 1934, he was named the first conductor (maestro) of the newly formed Rachidia Orchestra, transcribing oral melodies into Western musical notation.

Triki composed hundreds of original pieces, overtures, and theatrical scores, mentoring legendary singers such as Saliha, Choubeila Rached, and Naâma. His orchestral arrangements set the standard for North African modern classical music throughout the 20th century.
