Archival Overview

Biographical Record
Mohamed Melehi studied art in Tetouan, Seville, Rome, and Columbia University in New York. Returning to Morocco in 1964, he joined the Casablanca Art School as professor of painting, sculpture, and photography, becoming a leading visual revolutionary.
Melehi's signature motif—vibrant, undulating psychedelic waves inspired by the Atlantic Ocean and Islamic geometry—became an international modernist icon. In 1978, he co-founded the Asilah Cultural Moussem with Mohamed Benaïssa, transforming his seaside hometown into an open-air mural gallery and cultural destination.
