Biographical Record
Trained at the National Conservatory of Music in Rabat, Mohamed Hayani rose to stardom in the late 1960s with his landmark recording Rahila ('She Departed'), composed by Abdeslam Amer. His crystalline baritone and aristocratic stage presence revitalized Moroccan Arabic poetry.
Hits like Ghabet al-Shams and Bared ou Skhoon became timeless standards of the Moroccan golden musical era. When Egyptian superstar Abdel Halim Hafez visited Morocco, he famously declared Hayani his rightful musical peer.
