Biographical Record
Mohamed Hassan Ouazzani graduated from the École Libre des Sciences Politiques in Paris. Returning to Morocco, he was a principal architect of the Plan of Moroccan Reforms in 1934 and co-founded the National Action Committee alongside Allal al-Fassi. Exiled by French authorities to the Sahara (Itzer and Goulmima) for nine years (1937–1946), he never wavered in his democratic convictions.
In 1946, he founded the Democratic Independence Party (PDI), advocating a constitutional monarchy, freedom of the press, and multi-party democracy. Surviving severe injuries during the 1971 Skhirat coup attempt, he left a monumental multi-volume autobiography on the national struggle.
