Fierce Amazigh chieftain of the Ait Ouirra who waged two decades of relentless armed resistance against French conquest across the Tadla plains and High Atlas summits until his death at age 79.
Biographical Record
Based in the mountain fortress of El Ksiba, Moha ou Said was a legendary horseman and commander who raised the banner of holy resistance when French troops landed in Casablanca in 1907. He formed a military confederation uniting the Dir, Beni Mellal, and Tadla tribes.
Between 1913 and 1922, French generals Charles Mangin and Joseph Henrys launched multiple punitive expeditions, burning El Ksiba to the ground. Moha ou Said retreated higher into the limestone peaks of Naour, conducting hit-and-run ambushes until he fell in combat in 1924 at nearly eighty years old.
