Stanley Michael Bailey Hailwood (1940–1981), universally known as Mike the Bike, is regarded as one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time. Hailwood won nine Grand Prix World Championships (four in 500cc, two in 350cc, three in 250cc) and 76 Grand Prix races, while also achieving podiums in Formula One.

Awarded the George Medal for heroism after diving into a fiery wreck to pull Clay Regazzoni from burning debris at the 1973 South African GP, Hailwood made an immortal fairy-tale racing comeback in 1978, winning the Isle of Man TT at age 38 after an 11-year absence.
