Biographical Record

Ahmed Şefik Midhat Pasha was an Ottoman statesman, leading reformer of the Tanzimat period, and twice Grand Vizier. As leader of the constitutional movement, he drafted the first Ottoman Constitution (Kanûn-ı Esâsî) of 1876 and inaugurated the first Ottoman Parliament, establishing the First Constitutional Era before being exiled by Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
