Distinguished sociologist, researcher on Saharan nomadic pastoralism, and Director of INESG, assassinated during the intellectual purges of 1993.
Biographical Record
Dr. M'hamed Boukhobza was one of independent Algeria's most brilliant social scientists. Earning his doctorate in sociology, he authored foundational academic studies on the transformation of Algerian pastoral nomadism, the sociology of development, and the political economy of the Maghreb.
Appointed Director-General of the National Institute of Global Strategic Studies (INESG) in 1992, he warned against economic marginalization and institutional fragility. On June 22, 1993, terrorist gunmen invaded his home in Algiers and murdered him in front of his family, silencing one of the nation's most visionary strategic minds.
