Biographical Record
Meki Megara studied fine arts in Tetouan and Madrid at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Returning to Morocco, he was a foundational figure in the modern Moroccan artistic awakening alongside the Casablanca and Tetouan artistic avant-gardes.
His textured, mixed-media relief paintings incorporated metals, sand, and wood, pioneering Maghrebi abstract expressionism. Bank Al-Maghrib commissioned him to design several official Moroccan coins and collector medals.
