Marvin Gaye

Marvin Pentz Gay Jr. was an American singer, songwriter, and producer who helped shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s and redefined soul music as a serious socially conscious art form in the 1970s. Beginning as a session drummer and solo hitmaker ('How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by You', 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine'), Gaye emerged as Motown's premier romantic balladeer.

In 1971, defying Motown founder Berry Gordy's commercial formula, Gaye released the landmark concept album What's Going On, addressing the Vietnam War, environmental degradation, police violence, and drug addiction through lush, cinematic orchestration. Followed by sensual milestones like Let's Get It On and the Grammy-winning 1982 comeback 'Sexual Healing', Gaye remains an immortal titan of modern music.
