Genius Roman naval commander and engineer whose tactical victories at Naulochus and Actium established Octavian as Emperor Augustus and founded the Roman Empire. Also builder of the original Pantheon.

Biographical Record

Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa (c. 63–12 BCE) was the indispensable military brain behind Augustus. A master naval organizer, he engineered the inland Portus Julius naval base and invented the Harpax (a catapult-fired grappling hook that neutralized agile enemy vessels).

At the naval Battle of Actium (31 BCE), Agrippa outmaneuvered the combined fleet of Mark Antony and Cleopatra, winning the decisive engagement that unified the Mediterranean world under the Principate.
