Biographical Record

Marco Simoncelli (1987–2011) grew up in Coriano in the heart of Emilia-Romagna's 'Motor Valley'. Winning the European 125cc championship in 2002, he captured the 2008 250cc World Championship for Gilera with six victories, marked by fearless late-braking maneuvers.

Graduating to MotoGP with Fausto Gresini's Honda team in 2010, Simoncelli emerged as one of the premier class's brightest young stars, taking his first pole position at Assen and first podiums at Brno and Phillip Island in 2011. Following his tragic passing at Sepang, the Misano World Circuit was officially renamed the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in his honor.
