Archival Overview

Polish-Jewish partisan and elite commando in the FTP-MOI 'Manouchian Group' in Paris, celebrated for daring assassinations of Nazi occupation commanders.

Biographical Record

Marcel Rayman emigrated from Poland to France as a child and became an active textile worker. Following the Nazi invasion and the arrest of his parents, Rayman joined the Francs-Tireurs et Partisans - Main d'Oeuvre Immigree (FTP-MOI), a clandestine armed unit composed largely of immigrant anti-fascists.

Rayman carried out daring operations across Paris, most famously executing SS General Julius Ritter, who directed the forced labor program (STO) in France. Captured by French collaborationist police, he was featured on the infamous Nazi propaganda 'Affiche Rouge' and executed at Mont-Valerien.
