Maron

Maron was a Syriac Christian hermit who lived on Mount Nabo near Apamea in northern Syria. Embracing radical open-air asceticism without roof or shelter in scorching heat and freezing winters, he transformed a pagan temple into a Christian church dedicated to prayer and healing.

Maron's gifts of physical and psychological healing attracted thousands of disciples across the Levant, praised warmly by Saint John Chrysostom in personal letters. Following his death, his followers established the Monastery of Saint Maron on the Orontes, which became the religious anchor of the Maronite Church in Lebanon.
