Biographical Record
Succeeding his father Al-Nasir in 1088, Al-Mansur ibn Nasir consolidated the transfer of the Hammadid royal capital from the mountain fortress of Beni Hammad to the Mediterranean seaport of Béjaïa. His court welcomed Andalusian artisans, poets, and mathematicians.
He constructed magnificent architectural monuments, notably the Qasr al-Lu'lu'a (Pearl Palace) and Qasr al-Kawkab (Star Palace), while his royal navy controlled maritime trade routes across the western Mediterranean. Under his reign, Béjaïa earned the moniker 'The Pearl of the Maghreb'.
