Archival Overview
Trailblazing female pioneer of Moroccan abstract painting and printmaking, celebrated for five decades for her signature undulating organic motifs inspired by sea algae and calligraphic energy.
Biographical Record
Graduating in 1970 from the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts de Casablanca under Farid Belkahia, Malika Agueznay refined her printmaking techniques in New York and Asilah. She was one of the earliest Moroccan female artists to achieve international acclaim for pure abstraction.
Her signature motif—an organic, seaweed-like living glyph that pulsed across her canvases, woodcuts, and copper engravings—symbolized life, feminine resilience, and ecological vitality. Her work is preserved in major national museums across the Maghreb, Europe, and the Middle East.
