Biographical Record
Daughter of prominent scholar Hifni Bey Nasif, Malak was among the first women to graduate from the Saniyya Teachers College in 1900. Moving to the desert oasis of Fayoum following marriage, she adopted the moniker Bahithat al-Badiya (Seeker in the Desert).
Her essays in Al-Jarida, collected in Al-Nisa'iyyat, formulated an authentic indigenous feminist agenda. In 1911, she submitted a historic 10-point petition to the Egyptian National Congress demanding female access to universities, profession training, and judicial divorce rights.
