Biographical Record
Mahmoud Sehili graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1960. A painter of profound atmospheric sensitivity, he rejected easy ornamentalism to explore textured darkness, sudden illuminations, and meditative human figures.
An accomplished oud player and restorer of ancient medina architecture, Sehili established his artistic salon and gallery El Maken in Sidi Bou Said, nurturing generations of independent painters and musicians.
