Biographical Record
A champion gymnast who represented Egypt at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, Mahmoud Reda discovered theatrical dance while touring with an Argentine ballet company. Convinced that Egypt possessed an unsurpassed treasury of folk rhythms, he traveled across Upper Egypt, Nubia, and the Red Sea with his brother Ali Reda to study traditional peasant and Sufi steps.
In 1959, he founded the *Reda Troupe* starring lead dancer Farida Fahmy, composing iconic theatrical choreographies depicting stick dancing (Tahtib), peasant harvesting, and Alexandrian fishermen. The troupe performed in over sixty countries, defining authentic Egyptian cultural elegance on world stages.
