Biographical Record

Luo Guanzhong (c. 1330–c. 1400) was a fourteenth-century Chinese novelist and playwright who lived during the turbulent collapse of the Mongol Yuan dynasty and the founding of the Ming dynasty. Known by his courtesy name Benzhong and pseudonym Huhai Sanren ('Wanderer of the Lakes and Seas'), he served in military councils during rebel uprisings before dedicating himself to historical fiction.

Luo is credited with writing Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguo Yanyi), one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. Spanning nearly a century of warfare and political intrigue following the fall of the Han dynasty, the epic novel immortalized legendary historical figures such as Zhuge Liang, Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Guan Yu, shaping Chinese military strategy, moral ideals, and popular culture for over six centuries.
