"To conquer a fierce enemy, first feed his arrogance; when he believes you are weak, strike with fire."

Archival Overview

Supreme commander and Chancellor of Eastern Wu who designed the surprise capture of Jingzhou and annihilated Liu Bei's massive invasion army with fire attacks at the Battle of Yiling in 222 CE.

Biographical Record

Lu Xun (183–245 CE) emerged as Eastern Wu's foremost strategic mind. In 219 CE, he feigned inexperience in flattering letters to Guan Yu, causing the proud warrior to lower his guard and strip Jingzhou of troops, allowing Wu forces to capture the province.

In 222 CE, when Liu Bei launched a massive 50,000-man invasion to avenge Guan Yu, Lu Xun refused to fight for months while the Shu army exhausted itself in the summer heat across 700 li of interconnected wooden camps. Lu Xun then launched a coordinated fire assault, annihilating Liu Bei's army at Yiling and cementing the Three Kingdoms stalemate.
