Biographical Record
Lozen was the sister of Apache war chief Victorio. Possessing extraordinary equestrian and combat abilities, she was also revered for her spiritual gift of sensing the movement of enemy troops by extending her hands toward the horizon in prayer.
Lozen fought alongside Victorio and later Geronimo during the final phase of the Apache resistance. Captured in 1886 with Geronimo's band, she was transported as a prisoner of war to military stockades in Florida and Alabama, where she died in captivity.
