Louis IX of France (Saint Louis / King of Peace)

Crowned at age twelve under the wise regency of his mother Blanche of Castile, Louis IX dispensed justice sitting beneath the oak tree of Vincennes where any common peasant could petition him directly. He outlawed trial by ordeal and judicial duels, establishing the presumption of innocence.

He built the Sainte-Chapelle to house the Relics of the Passion and funded hospitals and colleges across Paris. Embarking on the Eighth Crusade, he perished of dysentery outside the walls of Carthage in Tunis, universally revered for moral integrity.
