Archival Overview

Seventh Avatar of Vishnu and hero of the epic Ramayana. Venerated throughout South and Southeast Asia as the ultimate exemplar of filial piety, righteous duty (Dharma), chivalry, and noble kingship.

Biographical Record

Eldest son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, Rama willingly accepted fourteen years of forest exile to honor his father's solemn pledge. Accompanied by his devoted wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, he defended sages and defeated the ten-headed demon king Ravana of Lanka.

His return to Ayodhya, marked globally by the festival of Diwali (festival of lights), inaugurated Ramrajya—the literary archetype of just, compassionate, and transparent governance.
