Biographical Record
Lázaro Cárdenas del Río was a Mexican military officer and statesman who served as President of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. He fulfilled the core promises of the Mexican Revolution by expropriating foreign oil companies to establish state oil company PEMEX, distributing over 45 million acres of land to peasants (ejidos), and welcoming tens of thousands of Spanish Republican refugees.
