Biographical Record

Larry Martin Hagman was the son of legendary Broadway star Mary Martin. After serving in the United States Air Force and acting on London and Broadway stages, he gained nationwide fame as Major Anthony Nelson, the bewildered astronaut owner of a magical genie played by Barbara Eden in the beloved sitcom 'I Dream of Jeannie' (1965–1970).

In 1978, Hagman transformed his career with the role of J.R. Ewing in 'Dallas'. His portrayal of the Stetson-wearing villain mesmerized global audiences, peaking with the 1980 'Who Shot J.R.?' cliffhanger, which drew over 83 million American viewers.
