Archival Overview
Kapenguria Six anti-colonial freedom fighter who managed Mau Mau logistics in the Rift Valley and mysteriously disappeared in Uganda in 1974 while pursuing business.
Biographical Record
Kungu Karumba was born around 1902 in Elburgon, Nakuru. A successful merchant and transporter, his strategic positioning along the Rift Valley railway corridor made him an indispensable logistician for the anti-colonial underground.
Karumba served as chairman of KAU in Churo and spearheaded the administration of the Mau Mau resistance oath. Arrested in October 1952, he was sentenced to seven years hard labour at Kapenguria. Following release in 1961, he chose private commerce over political office, building successful transport enterprises across East Africa. In June 1974, while on a business trip to collect debts in Jinja, Uganda, he disappeared without a trace during Idi Amin's terror regime.
