Biographical Record
A decorated general in the Russian imperial army during the Napoleonic Wars and widower of British Princess Charlotte, Leopold was elected King of the Belgians by the National Congress in 1831. Days after his coronation, he personally commanded Belgian forces against the invading Dutch during the Ten Days' Campaign.
