Biographical Record

Khudiram Bose was born in Midnapore, Bengal, and joined the secret revolutionary society Jugantar/Anushilan Samiti as an adolescent. Outraged by the ruthless corporal punishment meted out to young swadeshi protesters by British magistrate Douglas Kingsford, Bose volunteered for armed action.

On April 30, 1908, Bose and Prafulla Chaki hurled bombs at Kingsford's carriage in Muzaffarpur. Bose was arrested at Waini railway station and sentenced to death at only eighteen years of age. He marched to the gallows with a smile on his lips, immortalized in Bengali folk songs.
