Archival Overview
Preeminent modern historian of Aleppo whose three-volume 'Nahr al-Dhahab fi Tarikh Halab' documented the city's heritage.
Biographical Record
Kamil ibn Husayn al-Ghazzi was born into a cultured family in Aleppo and received a comprehensive education in Islamic jurisprudence, Arabic literature, and regional history. Serving in judicial and municipal posts, he was elected one of the founding corresponding members of the prestigious Arab Scientific Academy of Damascus in 1919.
Ghazzi's crowning historical monument is Nahr al-Dhahab fi Tarikh Halab (The River of Gold in the History of Aleppo), a rigorous three-volume topographical, archaeological, demographic, and political chronicle of Aleppo from antiquity to the early 20th century. His archival precision saved countless municipal and architectural records from oblivion.
