"A song should enter the listener's ear with the natural grace of a breeze through an open window."

Archival Overview

Master melodic composer and architect of 1950s–1960s Arab patriotic anthems, who composed Abdel Halim Hafez's timeless romantic songs Ahwak and Fi Youm Fi Shahr, and Umm Kulthum's Wallahi Zaman Ya Selahi.

Biographical Record

Studying at the Higher Institute of Arabic Music alongside close friends Abdel Halim Hafez and Ahmed Fouad Hassan, Kamal El-Taweel revolutionized Arabic melodic brevity, crafting streamlined, unforgettable melodies free from excessive classical ornamentation.

His 1956 patriotic hymn *Wallahi Zaman Ya Selahi* for Umm Kulthum was adopted as the official national anthem of Egypt from 1960 to 1979 and of the United Arab Republic. His songs for Abdel Halim (*Ahwak*, *Betloumouni Leh*, *Khabini*) remain the supreme benchmark of romantic Arab musical modernism.
