John Wycliffe (c. 1328–1384 CE) was Master of Balliol College, Oxford, emerging as England's leading theologian in the fourteenth century.

He attacked papal financial extortions, denied transubstantiation, championed the universal priesthood, and translated the Latin Vulgate into Middle English so the plowboy could read scripture.
