Biographical Record
Sant Dnyaneshwar (1275–1296) and his siblings were outcasted and orphaned in early childhood due to their father returning to household life after taking sannyasa. Demonstrating supernatural wisdom, Dnyaneshwar composed the 'Dnyaneshwari' (Bhavartha Dipika) in 1290, opening the esoteric Sanskrit wisdom of the Gita to ordinary peasants and women in melodious Ovi verse.
Dnyaneshwar also authored the non-dual philosophical treatise 'Amrutanubhav' (Nectar of Experience) and initiated the annual Pandharpur Wari pilgrimage to Vitthala. In 1296, having accomplished his cosmic mission at age twenty-one, he entered living underground meditation (Sanjeevan Samadhi) in Alandi before weeping disciples.
